Huawei Wins US$500 Bln Expansion Deal from Grameenphone

Chinese telecom equipment provider Huawei announced on June 3 that it has signed an agreement with Grameenphone, the largest telecom operator in Bangladesh, whereby Huawei will help the latter expand its GSM network, Xinhua News reported. The value of the deal is reportedly to worth more than US$500 million over next three years, according to the same report.

Under the agreement, Huawei will help Grameenphone in the migration of its GSM network to an all-IP (Internet Protocol) network, which promises to converge radio access and mobile phone services of Grameenphone, and make a smooth transition to 3G services, South China Morning Post reported. Further details of this deal, however, were yet to be revealed.
